Why Traders Use TradingView for Analysis but MT5 for Execution
TradingView is arguably the best charting platform in the world. Its drawing tools, indicators, screeners and clean interface make it the go-to for analysis. But when it comes to actually executing trades, most brokers require MetaTrader 5 — especially for forex, indices and commodities.
The problem is the gap between the two platforms. You draw your trade setup on TradingView, identify your entry, stop loss and take profit — then you have to manually type all those prices into MT5. One misclick or one wrong decimal point and you've entered the wrong trade.
This is exactly the problem TVBridge solves.
TVBridge is a Chrome extension + local Windows bridge that reads trade setups directly from TradingView and sends them to your MetaTrader 5 terminal with one click. No copy-pasting. No switching windows. No manual entry errors.
What You Need Before Getting Started
Before installing TVBridge, make sure you have the following:
- Windows PC — TVBridge runs locally on Windows (Mac support coming soon)
- MetaTrader 5 terminal — installed, open and logged into your broker account
- Google Chrome — the TVBridge panel lives inside Chrome as an extension
- TradingView account — free or paid, any plan works
- TVBridge license — available at tvbridge.app/pricing
Step 1: Install TVBridge on Your PC
Download TVBridgeSetup.exe from your purchase confirmation. Run it — the installer will ask for your license key, validate it against our server, and install everything automatically. TVBridge runs silently in your system tray and starts automatically with Windows.
You'll know it's running when you see the TVBridge icon in your taskbar notification area. A short startup chime confirms it's active.
Step 2: Add the Chrome Extension
Open Chrome and search for "TVBridge" on the Chrome Web Store, or use the direct link from your purchase email. Click "Add to Chrome" — no Developer Mode needed, no zip files, just a standard extension install.
Once installed, navigate to TradingView.com. You'll see the TVBridge panel appear automatically on your chart page.
Step 3: Connect to Your Broker
The TVBridge panel shows your Symbol (auto-detected from TradingView) and a Broker Symbol field. Click Scan — TVBridge searches your MT5 terminal for the matching symbol.
For example, if you're on US100 on TradingView and your broker calls it US100.cash, TVBridge finds and saves this mapping automatically. Next time you switch to US100, it fills in US100.cash with no manual input needed.
Tip: TVBridge supports fuzzy symbol matching — it handles broker suffixes like .cash, m, .pro, .raw automatically. Works with Pepperstone, IC Markets, Skilling, FTMO, XM, Exness and virtually any MT5 broker.
Step 4: Set Your Risk
This is where TVBridge really saves time. Instead of calculating lot sizes manually, you enter your risk directly:
- % mode — risk a percentage of your account balance (e.g. 1% of $10,000 = $100 at risk)
- $ mode — risk a fixed dollar amount regardless of account size
TVBridge reads your account balance from MT5 in real time and calculates the correct lot size automatically based on your entry price and stop loss distance.
Step 5: Use Drawing Detection (The Best Part)
Here's where TVBridge becomes truly powerful. TradingView has a built-in drawing tool called Long Position and Short Position. These let you visually map out a trade on the chart — showing your entry, stop loss and take profit as colored zones.
With TVBridge, you simply double-click any Long or Short Position drawing and it automatically reads:
- Entry price
- Stop loss price
- Take profit price
These fill into the TVBridge panel instantly. Check the values, confirm your risk, and click Buy or Sell. Your trade executes in MT5 with the correct lot size in under a second.
Partial Close and Position Management
TVBridge also handles position management directly from TradingView. Once you have an open position, you can close it in portions:
- Click 25% to close a quarter of your position
- Click 50% to close half
- Click 75% or 100% for larger closes
Each partial close shows a confirmation dialog with the exact percentage being closed, and after execution shows the realized PnL and lots closed. The Close All Position(s) button closes everything on the current symbol immediately — also with a confirmation step.
Tips for the Best Experience
- Make sure MT5 has Algo Trading enabled (the green button in the MT5 toolbar) — without it, TVBridge can connect but orders won't fill.
- Use the ↻ refresh button in the panel to re-scan the symbol if you switch to a new instrument.
- Keep TVBridge running in the background — it launches automatically with Windows so it's always ready.
Conclusion
TVBridge removes the biggest friction point in the TradingView → MT5 workflow. You keep TradingView as your analysis platform while getting instant, accurate execution directly in your MT5 terminal — with automatic risk sizing so you never over-leverage by mistake.
If you spend any significant time trading using TradingView charts with MT5 execution, TVBridge will pay for itself in saved time and avoided entry errors within your first trading session.
